Arava Drug Interactions
There are concerns about using roflumilast with medications that affect the immune system, such as Arava. Using these medications together could suppress your immune system too much, potentially increasing your risk for developing serious infections. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking roflumilast with Arava.
Arava may increase the level of tolbutamide in the bloodstream, potentially increasing your risk for tolbutamide side effects. Talk with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.
Arava may decrease the effectiveness of vaccines. Therefore, it is generally recommended that people receive any needed vaccinations before beginning Arava treatment. In addition, Arava can increase the risk for side effects from live vaccinations. Examples of live vaccinations include the chickenpox (varicella), polio, and smallpox vaccines. Make sure to let your healthcare provider know that you are taking Arava before receiving any vaccination.
In rare cases, Arava has been reported to increase the effects of warfarin, which could increase your risk for bleeding. Due to the risk of potentially serious bleeding problems, your healthcare provider should monitor you more closely, especially when you start, stop, or have a change in your Arava dose.
