Arthritis? Arthrites is a common misspelling of arthritis.

Arthritis -- inflammation of the joints -- is one of the most common diseases in the United States. The most common forms of this disease are osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, and gout. Symptoms include joint swelling and stiffness, and tenderness or pain when touching a joint.

Any joint can be affected by arthritis. However, certain types are more likely to affect certain joints. For example, ankylosing spondylitis most often affects the joints in the lower spine. Although much research has been done, scientists are still not able to explain why many forms of this condition occur. Treatment depends on the specific type of the condition, and can include exercise and medication.
