Crohn's disease, rheumatoid arthritis, or certain other inflammatory conditions, your healthcare provider may recommend a medication called Remicade® (infliximab). The drug works by keeping the immune system from attacking the body, which improves symptoms and, in some cases, prevents future damage from occurring. Remicade is given intravenously (through an IV), and each dose takes about two hours to complete.
Prior to beginning treatment, it is important to review with your healthcare provider relevant safety information on this medication. Remicade may not be appropriate for people with certain medical conditions, such as congestive heart failure, multiple sclerosis, or diabetes. In addition, you should know what side effects to watch out for, such as infections, headaches, and coughing.
