Synvisc Injections

Synvisc® (hylan G-F 20) is an osteoarthritis treatment that is injected directly into the knee to cushion and lubricate the joint. It is most appropriate for individuals who have not received adequate pain relief from other arthritis treatments (such as medications) but who are not yet good candidates for knee replacement surgery.

Synvisc injections are administered by your healthcare provider once a week for a total of three weeks. This treatment can provide pain relief for as long as six months. After six months, you may receive a repeat course of Synvisc treatment, if necessary.

You should talk with your healthcare provider prior to receiving this type of arthritis treatment if you have a swollen leg, ankle, or foot; an infection in or around the knee; or any allergies, including allergies to birds, food, dyes, or preservatives.

(Click Synvisc for more information on how your healthcare provider will administer the injections, what side effects may occur, and warnings and precautions to be aware of.)
