Infectious Arthritis

Infectious arthritis is a general term used to describe forms of arthritis that are caused by germs, such as bacteria or viruses.

There are several types of infectious arthritis. The most common type is septic arthritis, or arthritis caused by certain types of bacteria. Some other types of infectious arthritis include:

Tuberculosis arthritis
Fungal arthritis
Viral arthritis
Spirochetal arthritis (seen in people with Lyme disease or syphilis).

Hemorrhagic Arthritis

Hemorrhagic types of arthritis are caused by blood in the joint. Some conditions known to cause this type of arthritis include:

Hemophilia, including hemophilia A and hemophilia B
Sickle cell anemia
Pigmented villonodular synovitis.
