If your healthcare provider prescribes Arthrotec, your dosage will be based on the reason you are taking the medicine, how you tolerate it, and other factors. When treating osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis, the recommended amount is usually Arthrotec 50/200 three or four times a day. However, if you develop intolerable side effects, this amount may be adjusted.
An Introduction to Dosing With ArthrotecThe dose of Arthrotec® (diclofenac/misoprostol) your healthcare provider recommends may vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
- The reason you are taking the medication
- How well you tolerate it
- Other medications you are taking.
As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.
Arthrotec Dosage for OsteoarthritisThe standard Arthrotec dosage for the treatment of osteoarthritis is Arthrotec 50/200 three times a day. If you experience bothersome side effects, your healthcare provider may recommend you take Arthrotec 50/200 or Arthrotec 75/200 twice a day. While twice-a-day dosing is generally well tolerated, it is also less effective at preventing ulcers.
Your healthcare provider may recommend that you take more of one of the individual components -- misoprostol (Cytotec®) or diclofenac sodium (Voltaren®, Voltaren®-XR) -- in addition to Arthrotec. If so, it is generally recommended that your total diclofenac dosage not exceed 150 mg a day when used to treat the symptoms of osteoarthritis. Misoprostol doses should generally not exceed 200 mg per dose or 800 mg per day.
