Azulfidine EN-Tabs Dosage

The recommended Azulfidine EN-tabs dosage that you are prescribed will depend on factors such as your age and weight, the medical condition being treated, and other medications you are taking. The medication comes in the form of a tablet that is taken two to six times per day. Your Azulfidine EN-tabs dosage should be taken at the same times each day to maintain an even level in your blood.

 

Azulfidine EN-Tabs Dosage: An Introduction

The dose of Azulfidine EN-tabs® (sulfasalazine delayed-release) that your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
 
  • The medical condition being treated
  • Your age and weight
  • Other medical conditions you may have
  • Other medications you may be currently taking.
     
As is always the case, do not adjust your Azulfidine EN-tabs dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so (see Azulfidine Dosage for more information).
 

Azulfidine EN-Tabs Dosage for Active Ulcerative Colitis

The recommended starting dose of Azulfidine EN-tabs for cases of mild to moderately active ulcerative colitis in adults is Azulfidine EN-tabs 3000 mg to 4000 mg per day (split up into smaller doses taken at least every eight hours). For children age six and older, the recommended dose is Azulfidine EN-tabs 40 mg to 60 mg per kg (about 18 mg to 27 mg per pound) per day, split up into three to six smaller doses.
 
Your healthcare provider may decide to start you at a lower dose and slowly increase it, as this may decrease the risk of upset stomach and other intestinal-related Azulfidine EN-tabs side effects.
 

Azulfidine EN-Tabs Dosage for Ulcerative Colitis That Is in Remission

Once your ulcerative colitis is in remission, your healthcare provider may decrease your dose to Azulfidine EN-tabs 2000 mg daily (split up into several smaller doses) for adults. For children age six and up, the dose can be reduced to 30 mg per kg (about 13.5 mg per pound) per day, divided into four smaller doses.
