Azulfidine EN-Tabs Drug Interactions

When Azulfidine EN-tabs is taken with digoxin, folic acid, or warfarin, drug interactions can occur. These interactions can decrease the absorption of the medications into your body, perhaps making them less effective. Prior to treatment, tell your healthcare provider about all medications you are taking. If drug interactions with Azulfidine EN-tabs are a concern, your healthcare provider will adjust the dosages as necessary.

 

Azulfidine EN-Tabs Interactions: An Introduction

Azulfidine EN-tabs® (sulfasalazine delayed-release) can potentially interact with a few other medicines. Some of the medicines that may lead to Azulfidine EN-tabs drug interactions include:
 
  • Digoxin (Digitek®, Lanoxin®)
  • Folic acid
  • Warfarin (Coumadin®, Jantoven®).
     

Azulfidine EN-Tabs Drug Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Azulfidine EN-tabs is combined with any of the drugs listed above.
 
Digoxin
Azulfidine EN-tabs may decrease the absorption of digoxin into your body, perhaps making it less effective. Your healthcare provider should monitor the level of digoxin in your blood, especially when you are starting or stopping Azulfidine EN-tabs.
 
Folic Acid
Azulfidine EN-tabs may decrease the absorption of folic acid into your body. Ask your healthcare provider about taking folic acid supplements, especially if you are a woman of childbearing age.
 
Warfarin
Azulfidine EN-tabs may interact with warfarin. Your healthcare provider should monitor you more closely and adjust your warfarin dosage as necessary to prevent this interaction from occurring.
