Celebrex Dosage

If you are taking Celebrex, some of the factors that can affect your prescribed dosage include your symptoms, weight, and other medical conditions you may have. To reduce the likelihood of side effects, your condition will be treated with the lowest effective dose for the least amount of time. The recommend starting dosage of Celebrex for most people is 100 mg to 200 mg a day.

Dosing With Celebrex: An Introduction

The dosage of Celebrex® (celecoxib) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:

  • The medical condition being treated
  • Other medical conditions you may have
  • Other medications you are currently taking
  • Your weight (for children).

As is always the case, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Celebrex Doses for Various Medical Conditions

The following sections describe Celebrex dosages for certain medical conditions, including:

It should be noted that all doses should be reduced by 50 percent for people with moderate liver problems. People with severe liver problems should not take Celebrex at all. In addition, people known as "CYP2C9 poor metabolizers" (people who are genetically prone to metabolize certain drugs poorly) should be prescribed half the recommended dose. Children who are poor CYP2C9 metabolizers probably should not take Celebrex at all.

Osteoarthritis
The recommended starting dose of Celebrex for most people with osteoarthritis is 200 mg -- either once a day as a single dose or as 100 mg twice a day.
