Celebrex Medication for Pain
Celebrex® (celecoxib) is a medicine approved to treat a number of conditions related to pain and inflammation. For example, this nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) is often prescribed for:
- Treatment of arthritis symptoms, including stiffness, swelling, and pain. Celebrex can be used to treat several different types of arthritis, such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis.
- Treatment of painful menstrual periods.
- Acute pain relief, such as for pain following a procedure or muscle strain.
As a COX-2 inhibitor medication, Celebrex reduces pain by blocking COX-2, an enzyme that plays a role in pain and inflammation in the body. Common side effects include diarrhea, indigestion, and stomach pain.
