Cod Liver Oil Drug Interactions

When certain medications are taken with cod liver oil, drug interactions could occur. Some of these interactions may increase your risk of bleeding or decrease your blood pressure too much. Medications that can cause negative drug interactions with cod liver oil include aspirin, heparin (or heparin-like products), blood pressure medications, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

 

An Introduction to Cod Liver Oil Drug Interactions

Even though it is a "natural" product, cod liver oil can potentially interact with several medicines. These interactions have the potential to be quite serious. Some of the medicines that may lead to cod liver oil drug interactions include:
 
 
    • Dalteparin (Fragmin®)
    • Enoxaparin (Lovenox®)
    • Tinzaparin (Innohep®)
 
  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as:
 
 
  • Vitamin A or vitamin D
  • Warfarin (Coumadin®, Jantoven®).
