An Introduction to Duexis Side Effects
Just like any medicine,
Duexis™ (
ibuprofen/famotidine) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes the medication will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.
(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Duexis. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list with you.)
Common Side Effects of Duexis
Duexis has been studied extensively in clinical trials.
In these studies, the side effects that occurred in a group of people taking Duexis (a combination of
ibuprofen and
famotidine) were documented and compared to side effects that occurred in another group of people taking just ibuprofen. As a result, it was possible to see what Duexis side effects occurred, how often they appeared, and how they compared to ibuprofen alone.
In these studies, the most common Duexis side effects included:
Other common side effects, occurring in 1 to 2 percent of people, included but were not limited to:
It is possible that many of these reported side effects may not be real side effects at all, as the studies did not compare Duexis to a placebo (a medicine that does not contain any active ingredients). For instance, 3 percent of people given Duexis, as well as 3 percent of the people taking ibuprofen only, had a
headache. Because there is no placebo to compare it to, it is possible that the headaches were completely unrelated to the medication.
