Enbrel® (etanercept) is a prescription drug used for treating certain inflammatory conditions that affect the joints and skin. By blocking the activity of a naturally occurring chemical in the body that is involved with inflammation and other immune system functions, the medication can reduce the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, plaque psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, and other conditions. Enbrel is taken as an injection once or twice a week. Common side effects include infections, headache, and injection site skin reactions.
