Who Makes Enbrel?

Enbrel® (etanercept) is a medication widely used in the treatment of certain types of arthritis, as well as plaque psoriasis. The types of arthritis it is approved to treat include:
 
Amgen is the company who makes Enbrel. At this time, the drug is only available in brand-name form. Generic versions are currently unavailable.
 
Enbrel works by targeting the action of a specific chemical in the body called tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), inhibiting its effects. TNF-alpha is known to play a role in immune system reactions such as inflammation, and by blocking its effects, Enbrel helps to relieve the symptoms of the conditions listed here and also can prevent future joint damage from occurring in some cases.
