Drug Interactions With Etodolac (Cont.)

Etodolac Drug Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail how the drugs mentioned above can cause potentially negative interactions when combined with etodolac.

Warfarin
If you are taking blood thinners, such as warfarin, while taking etodolac, your body may metabolize them differently than intended. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your INR and prothrombin time more frequently and adjust your dosages accordingly. INR and prothrombin time are tests used to measure how well your blood is clotting.

Other Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs
Using these pain relievers with etodolac can increase the risk for bleeding. However, acetaminophen (Tylenol®) products can be safely used.

Aspirin
Aspirin and etodolac can be used together; however, studies have indicated that the chances of stomach ulcers are higher when these medicines are combined. Talk to your healthcare provider about using aspirin and etodolac together in your particular situation.

ACE Inhibitors
Etodolac may inhibit the blood pressure-lowering effects of ACE inhibitors. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dose of these drugs to prevent this interaction from occurring.

Diuretics
Etodolac may reduce the activity of diuretics. As a result, your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dose of these drugs.

Lithium
Taking etodolac and lithium together may increase the levels of lithium in your body by decreasing the amount removed by the kidneys. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dose of these drugs and monitor the level of lithium in your blood, depending on your particular situation.
