More Detail About Flurbiprofen Interactions
Warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven)
If you are taking blood thinners, such as warfarin, while taking
flurbiprofen, your body may metabolize them differently than intended. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your INR and prothrombin time more frequently and adjust accordingly. INR and prothrombin time are tests used to measure how well your blood is clotting.
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs)
Using these pain relievers with flurbiprofen can increase the risk of bleeding.
Acetaminophen (
Tylenol®) products can be safely used.
Aspirin
Studies have indicated that the chances of developing stomach ulcers are higher when aspirin and flurbiprofen are combined. For your particular situation, talk with your healthcare provider about using aspirin and flurbiprofen together.
ACE Inhibitors (Accupril, Lotensin, Vasotec, Altace, Zestril, Prinivil, Monopril, Capoten)
Flurbiprofen may decrease the
blood pressure-lowering effects of ACE inhibitors. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dose of these drugs.
Diuretics (Torsemide [Demadex], Furosemide [Lasix], Hydrochlorothiazide)
Flurbiprofen may reduce the activity of diuretics. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dose of these drugs.
Lithium (Eskalith, Lithane, Lithonate, Lithotabs)
Taking flurbiprofen and
lithium together may increase the levels of lithium in your body by decreasing the removal of lithium by the kidneys. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dose of these drugs and monitor the level of lithium in your blood.
Beta Blockers
Similar to other
NSAIDs, flurbiprofen may decrease the blood pressure-lowering effects of beta blockers. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dose of these drugs.
