When and How to Take It

Some general considerations to keep in mind during treatment with Gengraf include the following:

  • Gengraf comes in the form of a capsule and a liquid solution. It is taken by mouth twice a day.

  • You can take this medication with food or on an empty stomach; however, you should take it the same way every day, at the same time each day, and with the same amount of time between doses and meals.

  • The liquid solution should be mixed with room-temperature apple or orange juice to make the medicine more palatable. Mix the medicine immediately before drinking it using a glass container (not plastic). After drinking the medicine, add a little more juice to the glass and drink again to make sure you swallow your complete dose.

  • Do not mix Gengraf liquid solution with milk or grapefruit juice. Milk or grapefruit juice may alter the amount of medicine that is absorbed into your body. In addition, Gengraf is quite unpalatable when mixed with milk.

  • Always use the dosing syringe that came with your medicine to measure out your liquid dose. When finished, wipe the syringe clean with a towel, but do not rinse it. Exposing the syringe to water may make it less accurate. If the syringe gets wet, let it dry completely before using it again.

  • For the medication to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed. Do not stop taking this medicine, or change to another brand of cyclosporine, without first talking to your healthcare provider.

Dosing Information

The dose of Gengraf your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:

  • The reason you are using the medicine
  • How you respond to it
  • Your weight
  • Your blood levels of Gengraf
  • Other medications you may be taking.

As is always the case, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.
