Diagnosing Gout -- Or Another Condition?

There are a number of medical conditions that can share similar symptoms with gout. Your healthcare provider will consider these before making a gout diagnosis. Some of these conditions include:

Septic arthritis (an infection inside the joint)
Pseudogout
Calcific tendonitis
Systemic lupus erythematosus (lupus or SLE for short)
Psoriatic arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis
Osteoarthritis
Diabetes
HIV infection.
