There are a number of possible major complications that can also occur. These are uncommon, however, your overall health will play a role in your likelihood of developing complications and how well you recover. For example, patients with severe heart disease, diabetes, lung or kidney disease may have a higher chance of complications occurring than those patients who are healthier.
Depending on the individual situation, a major complication may lead to a longer hospital stay, a blood transfusion, a repeat surgery including replacing the hip implant, or in infrequent cases, permanent disability or even loss of life.
