Despite the current sterile techniques used for all surgeries, infections are always a possibility following this procedure. Infections however occur rarely, in 1-2 out of 100 procedures. The treatment options will vary depending on the location of the infection.
Infections can range from very minor ones that are only treated with antibiotics to very major infections requiring a repeat surgery. If an infection develops within the hip joint itself, a repeat surgery will be performed and the implant may possibly be removed.
