Nerve injuries are also a complication of hip replacement surgery, occurring in 2 to 5 out of 100 procedures. Most injuries are temporary, improving in several days to months. Sometimes, the injury is permanent. This is more likely if scar tissue is present surrounding the nerve. The symptoms can range from temporary to permanent problems in the legs and/or foot, including loss of feeling and strength of the affected area.
