Loss of Life During Hip Replacement Surgery

Total hip replacement has been performed safely for over 25 years. However, as with any surgery, there are risks. In extremely rare cases, the complications can be fatal. Loss of life occurs in less than 1 out of 1,000 patients. This is usually related to the person's overall health, rather than to the hip replacement surgery itself.
