Nerve injuries with total hip replacement surgery occur in about 2 to 5 of 100 patients, making it a relatively uncommon complication. Most injuries are temporary, improving in several days to months; however, sometimes, the injury is permanent. This is more likely to occur if scar tissue is present surrounding the nerve. The symptoms of nerve injuries can range from temporary to permanent problems in the legs and/or feet, including loss of feeling and strength in the affected area.
