Benefits of Ibuprofen

Ibuprofen (brand names include Motrin®, Advil®, Genpril®, and Nuprin®) is a common medication used to treat a wide range of conditions that cause pain, stiffness, and inflammation, such as arthritis and muscle or tendon injury. Ibuprofen benefits people with these conditions because it targets certain chemicals -- called prostaglandins -- known to play a role in pain and inflammation.

In general, this drug starts working in about an hour; however, when using this product to treat arthritis symptoms like joint inflammation, it can take one to two weeks to see any benefits of ibuprofen use. If you are using ibuprofen to treat pain and don't see improvement after 10 days, stop taking this medicine and contact a healthcare provider.
