Effects of Ibuprofen

By inhibiting the action of certain chemicals in the body, ibuprofen is effective at treating pain, inflammation, and stiffness associated with medical conditions like arthritis, painful menstrual periods, or tendon injury.

The effects of ibuprofen are generally felt in about an hour; however, it can take up to two weeks to feel the drug's full effects when using it to treat joint inflammation and other arthritis symptoms. The amount your pharmacist or healthcare provider recommends will depend on factors like the condition being treated and your age, among other things.

It is important to take the lowest effective dose of ibuprofen for the shortest time possible in order to treat your condition. Follow dosing guidelines carefully and do not exceed more than 1200 mg a day when taking nonprescription ibuprofen for pain. If you still have pain after 10 days, contact your healthcare provider.
