Ibuprofen is a common pain medication that also works to relieve inflammation, stiffness, and fever associated with various conditions. Brand names include
Motrin®, Advil
®, Genpril
®, and Nuprin
®; however, you can also buy it in generic form. Both adults and children over the age of 12 can take ibuprofen.
If you are considering giving ibuprofen to children under the age of 12, it is better to use a formula specifically designed for such age groups, such as Infants' Motrin, Infants' Advil, Children's Motrin, or Children's Advil. Follow the dosing directions exactly as indicated on the product label or as your healthcare provider advises. If you are giving a child ibuprofen to treat a fever and it does not improve within three days, contact your healthcare provider.
