Ibuprofen Drug Interactions (Cont.)

More Details About Ibuprofen Interactions

Other Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs)
Using these pain relievers with ibuprofen can increase the risk of bleeding; however, acetaminophen (Tylenol®) products are generally safe to use with ibuprofen.

Warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven)
If you are taking "blood thinners," such as warfarin, while taking ibuprofen, your body may metabolize them differently than intended. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your INR and prothrombin time more frequently and adjust your dosages accordingly. INR and prothrombin time are tests used to measure how well your blood is clotting.

Aspirin
Studies have indicated that the chances are higher for stomach ulcers when aspirin and ibuprofen are combined. Talk with your healthcare provider about using ibuprofen and aspirin together.

ACE Inhibitors (Accupril, Lotensin, Vasotec, Altace, Zestril)
Ibuprofen may inhibit the blood pressure-lowering effects of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dose of these drugs.

Diuretics (Demadex, Lasix)
Ibuprofen may reduce the activity of diuretics. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dose of these drugs.

Lithium (Eskalith, Lithane, Lithonate, Lithotabs)
Taking ibuprofen and lithium together may increase the levels of lithium in your body by reducing the kidneys' ability to remove lithium. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dose of these drugs and monitor the level of lithium in your blood.

Methotrexate (Rheumatrex, Trexall)
If you are taking both methotrexate and ibuprofen, your healthcare provider may monitor you more closely. He or she may need to adjust your dose of these drugs.
