Ibuprofen (marketed under brand names such as Motrin®, Advil®, Genpril®, and Nuprin®) is a type of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Its use is commonly indicated for:
Pain relief, such as pain that occurs after a procedure
Treatment of arthritis symptoms, including pain, stiffness, and swelling
Treatment of painful menstrual periods
Temporary relief of fever.
Ibuprofen is also found in a number of medications used to treat cold, flu, and sinus symptoms. Keep in mind that although this medication can relieve symptoms of arthritis, it does not cure the condition or alter its progression.
