Ibuprofen Safety

Although most people are able to take it safely, ibuprofen (marketed under brand names such as Motrin®, Advil®, Genpril®, and Nuprin®) has some special warnings to be aware of. For example, ibuprofen may worsen high blood pressure or even cause it. If you have high blood pressure (hypertension), talk to your healthcare provider before taking this drug, as your case may require particular caution.

Also, if you drink alcohol frequently, discuss this with your healthcare provider prior to starting ibuprofen. Since alcohol can affect the way the liver works, this may indirectly affect ibuprofen.

Safety warnings for ibuprofen also apply to people with asthma, diabetes, and heart disease, as well as women who are pregnant, thinking of becoming pregnant, or nursing.
