Is Motrin Ibuprofen?

If you have menstrual cramps, you may be able to find relief by taking ibuprofen, a common pain reliever. This medication is marketed under many brand names. For example, Advil®, Genpril®, Nuprin®, and Motrin® are all ibuprofen products. Ibuprofen is also used to treat pain, swelling, and inflammation due to arthritis, muscle strains, and other conditions.

This medication is thought to work by blocking the effects of certain hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body. When using over-the-counter (OTC) ibuprofen products, you should follow the instructions on the label. Do not exceed the recommended dose, and do not take the medication for more than 10 days for pain relief unless your healthcare provider recommends doing so.
