Generic Imuran

You can find generic Imuran sold under the names Azathioprine tablets and Azasan tablets. The medication is available in three different strengths. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has assigned an "AB" rating to this medication, which means that it is considered equivalent to brand-name Imuran. However, it may have different inactive ingredients.

Generic Imuran: An Overview

Imuran® (azathioprine) is a prescription medication that is approved to:
 
  • Be used along with other medications to prevent organ rejection after a kidney transplant
  • Reduce the signs and symptoms of active rheumatoid arthritis.
     
Imuran is currently made by Prometheus Laboratories. However, it has since come off-patent and is now available in generic form. Generic Imuran is sold under the following names:
 
  • Azathioprine
  • Azasan®.
     
Generic manufacturers can choose to create a new name for their product instead of using the conventional generic name. This is the case with Azasan.
 

Strengths of Generic Imuran

Generic Imuran is available in the following strengths:
 
  • Azathioprine 50 mg tablets
  • Azasan 75 mg tablets
  • Azasan 100 mg tablets.
     
A generic injectable version is also available.
