Imuran® (azathioprine) is a prescription medicine licensed to reduce the signs and symptoms of active rheumatoid arthritis. It can also be used in combination with other medications to prevent organ rejection after a kidney transplant. Imuran acts similarly to certain types of chemotherapy medication, killing cells by damaging DNA and suppressing the immune system. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking this drug if you have a blood disorder, have any infections, or have previously taken chemotherapy medications.
