Imuran Warnings and Precautions (Cont.)

Who Should Not Take Imuran?

You should not take Imuran if you:

  • Are allergic to Imuran, azathioprine, or any of the inactive ingredients used in making Imuran. Your healthcare provider or pharmacist has a list of the inactive ingredients.

  • Are a pregnant woman with rheumatoid arthritis (see Imuran and Pregnancy).

  • Have taken certain chemotherapy medications, such as cyclophosphamide (Cytoxan®) or chlorambucil (Leukeran®) in the past to treat rheumatoid arthritis, due to an increased risk of cancers. Ask your healthcare provider about this, however, as it may be okay to take Imuran in certain situations.
