Imuran® (azathioprine) is available by prescription and is used to prevent organ rejection following a kidney transplant and to treat the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis. It is not entirely clear how the drug works, but it is thought that it mostly works by suppressing the immune system. Imuran is not suitable for everyone. A few of the conditions you should let your healthcare provider know about before taking it include a blood disorder, any infection, or if you have taken chemotherapy medications in the past.
