X-rays are used to determine the degree of joint destruction. They are not useful in the early stages of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis before bone damage is evident, but they can be used later to monitor the progression of the disease.
Ruling Out Other Conditions
Before making a juvenile rheumatoid arthritis diagnosis, the healthcare provider will also consider other conditions that share a number of symptoms with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Some of these conditions include:
Physical injury
Bacterial or viral infection, such as bacterial endocarditis or viral pericarditis
