Following surgery and therapy, you can expect that your knee will function much better. The results with total knee replacement have been very good and continue to get better. Greater than 80 out of 100 of patients have almost complete pain relief and are eventually able to walk and go up and down stairs without the use of a walker or other assistance device. Furthermore, the implants are now lasting longer. For example, greater than 95 out of 100 implants are lasting 10-15 years or longer.
It is important to remember that this artificial knee joint will feel different than your normal knee.
Because individual situations can vary, if you have any questions about your expected results, you and your doctor can discuss your particular situation. It is important that your expectations match your doctor's expectations.
