Fractures and Knee Replacement Surgery
Fractures can also occur during or following total knee replacement surgery, although they are relatively uncommon. The fracture location will determine the treatment required. Surgery is sometimes necessary, including a repeat of the total knee replacement. Fractures may require other treatments as well. For example, bone may also need to be taken from your hip to help with the healing of the fracture. This is called bone grafting. Your healthcare provider will explain the details of this procedure if it is necessary.
