Scar Formation Following Knee Replacement

You will have a scar following knee replacement surgery. Most often, these scars heal without any problems. However, it is possible that you will develop abnormal scars, especially if you have a history of keloids (excessive, thick scarring). If this is a concern for you, discuss this with a dermatologist and your physician. The appearance of the scars, however, does not predict your results of your surgery. With knee replacement, an enlarged scar formation can develop even on people who have excellent surgical results.
