Krystexxa Uses

How Does Krystexxa Work?

Krystexxa works by lowering uric acid levels. This helps to treat gout, as this condition occurs when the levels of uric acid become so high that uric acid crystals form inside the joint. The medication lowers uric acid levels by causing a chemical reaction that converts uric acid into allantoin, a harmless substance that is excreted from the body in the urine.

Off-Label Uses for Krystexxa

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend Krystexxa for something other than refractory gout (this would be known as an "off-label" use). Based on approved or off-label uses of other medications that are similar to Krystexxa, it is predicted that Krystexxa might possibly be used off-label for the following purposes:

  • Preventing high uric acid levels due to cancer treatment
  • Preventing recurrent kidney stones in people with high uric acid levels.
