A number of conditions related to pain, inflammation, swelling, or stiffness can be treated by Lodine XL. Uses of the drug generally include the relief of symptoms caused by rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Occasionally, a healthcare provider may also recommend Lodine XL for treatment of fibromyalgia symptoms, gout symptoms, and pain or inflammation caused by other conditions.
Lodine® XL (etodolac extended-release) is a prescription medication that has been licensed to treat several conditions related to pain, inflammation, swelling, or stiffness.
Lodine XL is not a cure for these types of arthritis, nor does it slow the progression of the disease.
How Does Lodine XL Work?
Lodine XL and other NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) work by inhibiting the action of certain hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body. These hormones are called prostaglandins. By blocking the effects of prostaglandins, Lodine XL helps to alleviate pain and joint swelling associated with different forms of arthritis.
