Etodolac is commonly prescribed to help reduce pain, swelling, inflammation, or stiffness. This nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug works by inhibiting the action of certain hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body. Thus, it is effective in treating arthritis symptoms and general pain. The medication comes in either tablet or capsule form and is available in several strengths. Common side effects include heartburn, diarrhea, and dizziness.
- Heartburn or indigestion (dyspepsia)
- Stomach pain
- Tiredness or weakness.
- Cardiovascular problems, including a heart attack or stroke
- Stomach or intestinal problems, including bleeding, ulcers, or a hole (known as a perforation)
- Liver damage
- Kidney problems, including kidney failure
- Fluid retention
- Congestive heart failure
- Allergic reaction
- Unexplained rash.
