Naproxen (brand names include Aleve®, Naprosyn®, EC-Naprosyn®, Anaprox®, Anaprox® DS, and Naprelan®) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug used for a number of different conditions. For example, naproxen is approved to treat arthritis symptoms, such as pain, stiffness, and swelling.
This medication can be used to treat several different types of arthritis, including:
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Juvenile arthritis (also known as juvenile rheumatoid arthritis)
- Ankylosing spondylitis
Although it can help improve symptoms of arthritis, naproxen is not a cure for this condition, nor will it change the progression of the disease.
