Nabumetone

Nabumetone is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to treat pain, inflammation, swelling, and/or stiffness. Your healthcare provider may prescribe this drug to treat signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Nabumetone works by inhibiting the action of certain hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body. It is important to note that nabumetone is not a cure for the types of arthritis mentioned above, nor does it slow their progression. Common side effects of this medication include diarrhea, stomach pain, and dizziness.

 

What Is Nabumetone?

Nabumetone (Relafen®) is a prescription medicine used to treat pain, inflammation, swelling, and/or stiffness. It is part of a class of drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or NSAIDs for short.

Nabumetone is manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline.
 

Nabumetone Uses

Nabumetone has been licensed for the relief of signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
 
Nabumetone is not a cure for these types of arthritis, nor does it slow the progression of the disease.

How Does Nabumetone Work?

Nabumetone and other NSAIDs work by inhibiting the action of certain hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body. These hormones are called prostaglandins.
 

Nabumetone Effects

By blocking the effects of prostaglandins, nabumetone is useful at reducing pain, inflammation, and joint swelling associated with different forms of arthritis and painful conditions.
