For people with gout, the recommended naproxen sodium dose to start is 825 mg, followed by 275 mg every eight hours until the attack has subsided.
General Information on Your Naproxen Sodium Dose
Some considerations for people taking naproxen sodium include the following:
Your dose of naproxen sodium should be taken with a glass of water. Taking it with milk or food may help prevent stomach upset.
Do not break, chew, or crush the tablets or caplets.
It is important to take the lowest effective dose for the least amount of time in order to treat your condition. This will decrease the chances of serious side effects occurring.
If you are taking naproxen sodium to help relieve arthritis symptoms, such as joint inflammation, it may take one to two weeks for the full effects to be felt. However, the medication typically helps to relieve pain in about 30 minutes.
For naproxen sodium to work properly, you have to take it as prescribed. The medication will not work if you take it in a different way than how your healthcare provider has prescribed.
If you do not take your naproxen sodium as scheduled, take your missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is close to the next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and continue with normal dosing. Do not take a double dose of this or any other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID). However, it is okay to take it with acetaminophen (Tylenol®).
If you are unsure about anything related to your dose or your naproxen sodium dosing in general, please talk to your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
