Naproxen Sodium Precautions and Warnings

Being aware of precautions and warnings with naproxen sodium before taking it can help ensure a more effective and safer treatment process. This medication may cause liver and kidney damage, an increase in liver enzymes, anemia, and stomach or intestinal problems. Safety precautions also extend to people who have an active bleeding condition, are allergic to the drug, or are in the third trimester of pregnancy.

 

Naproxen Sodium: What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider?

Talk to your healthcare provider prior to taking naproxen sodium (brand names include Aleve®, Anaprox®, and Naprelan®) if you have:
 
Let your healthcare provider know if you:
 
  • Are pregnant or thinking about becoming pregnant
  • Are breastfeeding
  • Drink alcohol frequently
  • Smoke
  • Are having or have recently had heart surgery.
     
Also, tell your healthcare provider about all other medicines you are currently taking, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
