When treating pain or inflammation with prescription
naproxen (brand names include Aleve
®,
Naprosyn®,
EC-Naprosyn®,
Anaprox®, Anaprox
® DS, and
Naprelan®), your healthcare provider will consider several factors. Some of these factors include the product used, the condition being treated, other medical conditions you may have, and other medications you are currently taking.
The recommended starting dose for most people with mild to moderate pain associated with various conditions is 250 mg to 500 mg of naproxen by mouth twice daily. Naproxen 500 mg tablets (immediate, delayed, and extended-release) are only available with a prescription.
For the medication to work properly, it must be taken as recommended. Your naproxen dosage should be taken with a glass of water. Taking it with milk or food may help prevent an upset stomach.
