Naproxen Drug Information

Naproxen (brand names include Aleve®, Naprosyn®, EC-Naprosyn®, Anaprox®, Anaprox® DS, and Naprelan®) is a drug used to reduce stiffness, inflammation, and pain. It is found in both prescription and nonprescription products, and is approved for adults and children. This medication is typically taken no more than twice daily.

Naproxen works by inhibiting the action of prostaglandins, which are hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body. Although the drug is generally well tolerated, it is not suitable for everyone. Before taking naproxen, make sure your healthcare provider has up-to-date information on your medical history and a list of your current medications. In particular, be sure to let your healthcare provider know if you have high blood pressure, asthma, or problems with your heart, liver, or kidneys.
