Orencia and Breastfeeding

It is not known whether Orencia and breastfeeding are a safe combination, because no human studies have been conducted at this time. In animal studies, however, the medication was shown to pass through breast milk in rats. If you healthcare provider recommends taking Orencia while breastfeeding, make sure to watch for any side effects in your nursing child.

It is unknown if Orencia® (abatacept) passes through breast milk. Therefore, if you are breastfeeding a child or are thinking of starting breastfeeding, it is important to talk to your healthcare provider about taking Orencia.
