Piroxicam

Piroxicam is a prescription drug that is used to relieve symptoms of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, among other conditions related to pain, inflammation, swelling, and stiffness. The drug is part of a class of drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and it works by inhibiting certain hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body. The drug comes in the form of a capsule and should be taken with a glass of water. Piroxicam and other NSAIDs have a number of potential side effects, including diarrhea, gas, and heartburn.

Piroxicam is manufactured by Pfizer.
 

Piroxicam Uses

Piroxicam has been licensed for the relief of signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
 
Piroxicam is not a cure for the types of arthritis mentioned above, nor does it slow the progression of the disease.

How Does Piroxicam Work?

Piroxicam and other NSAIDs work by inhibiting the action of certain hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body. These hormones are called prostaglandins.
 

Piroxicam Effects

By blocking the effects of prostaglandins, piroxicam is useful for reducing pain, inflammation, and joint swelling associated with different forms of arthritis and painful conditions.
