Taking Other Drugs With Ponstel

More Information on Interactions With Ponstel

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur if Ponstel is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

ACE Inhibitors
Ponstel may decrease the blood pressure-lowering effects of ACE inhibitors. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your doses of these drugs to prevent an interaction.

Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers (ARBs)
Ponstel may affect an ARB's ability to lower blood pressure. Because of this drug interaction, your healthcare provider may need to adjust your doses of these drugs.

Antacids
Taking antacids and Ponstel at the same time may increase the amount of Ponstel in the blood. Combining antacids with Ponstel is generally not recommended.

Beta Blockers
Similar to other NSAIDs, Ponstel may decrease the blood pressure-lowering effects of beta blockers. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dose of these drugs.

Corticosteroids
Using corticosteroids with Ponstel can increase the risk of bleeding. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor you more closely or adjust your doses of these drugs.

Cyclosporine
Taking Ponstel and cyclosporine together may increase the chances for kidney damage. Your healthcare provider may monitor you more closely and may need to adjust your doses of these drugs.

Diuretics
Ponstel may reduce the activity of diuretics. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your doses of these drugs to prevent an interaction from occurring.

Lithium (Eskalith, Lithane, Lithonate, Lithotabs)
Taking Ponstel and lithium together may increase the levels of lithium in your body by decreasing the removal of lithium by the kidneys. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your doses of these drugs and monitor the level of lithium in your blood.

Methotrexate (Rheumatrex, Trexall)
If you are taking both methotrexate and Ponstel, your healthcare provider may monitor you more closely and adjust your doses of these drugs.

"Blood Thinners" and Other Similar Drugs
Combining Ponstel with anticoagulants ("blood thinners"), antiplatelet drugs, or other medications that increase the risk of bleeding may lead to serious bleeding problems, including dangerous internal bleeding. Do not combine Ponstel with such medications without your healthcare provider's approval and supervision.
